One of my all-time favorites

Okay, so I was one of those kids in junior high school. You know the type: the teacher gives a reading assignment, and the kid does all he can within his power to be prepared without actually reading. Yeah, Cliff Notes, relying on others who actually read, Internet, etc...I was solidly one of those. Then in eleventh grade something life-changing happened.
There were several friends of mine passing around books like they were some sort of prized possessions. It was odd. Here I was avoiding reading like the plague, but their enthusiasm for reading was catching; it piqued my curiosity. I asked what they were reading, and one of my friends said, Anne Rice! Well, I folded and bought Interview with the Vampire.
WOW, I could not put the book down! I devoured it. I lived it. I breathed it. I had these burning, existential questions that would keep me up at night, and here I was reading conversations between Armand and Louis that hit on life, love, being, birth, death--all those questions that I wanted to ask of someone, some authority figure.
I don't want to go into plot details. I just want to share that this book affected me profoundly. One effect being that now you will rarely see me without a book in hand!

*GREAT* Read Even If You Saw The Movie!

I enjoyed reading Anne Rice's INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE (20TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION) book.

Even though I'm a big fan of the movie adaptation--Interview with the Vampire--of the book, it still left me with new things to discover that weren't covered in the film.

The story is told in first person by Louis, a man who is telling his story to a young writer about what it's like being a vampire. He also describes his struggle with the "dark gift" and how empty he feels living day-to-day, with questions that he will never find the answers to. Beneath the surface the story is about self-discovery and the questioning of faith. And the homoerotic scenes aren't sexual but more about love and yearning than anything else. The book really does challenge the notions of right and wrong, moral and immoral, and all through the eyes of a vampire who would have never questioned these things had he remained human.

I read The Vampire Lestat (Rice, Anne, Chronicles of the Vampires, 2nd Bk.) book first, which gives the back-story of Lestat the vampire who made Louis, and both books were enjoyable.

INTERVIEW... the book does stray a little from the movie version, but it's still engrossing, so if you've seen the film you'll more than likely enjoy the book.

This 20th Anniversary Edition is in an over-sized paperback edition with large print so it's easy to read.

Slightly disappointing

Given the massive enthusiasm and following, I was disappointed at the number of passages that I found to be awkwardly written or confusing or just dull. It is ultimately an interesting thought experiment about immortality and morality but I don't think it deserves the mania it has collected.

A pretty good brief summary of the battle

As a military history buff, I've read hundreds of books and articles on World War II, including at least a dozen books about the Battle of Stalingrad. With so many books written about it, Stalingrad is one of the most studied battles in history. There's no new ground in this short book about the battle, but it's a good read for someone who wants a concise education in an hour or so. The author covered the highlights of the 200-day battle that resulted in the near total destruction of the city and the loss of the German 6th Army.

There were enough anecdotes in the book to keep it from being a dry recitation of dates and facts. The book has no maps, however, a significant omission in my opinion. Also, a bibliography of other reading sources for interested readers would have been helpful.

Great fast read!

I really enjoyed this book. It is a great fast read when you don't have a lot of time to read a thick history book.

It contained a lot of detail and left the more insignificant "stuff' out. The Kindle version had lots of spelling errors, missing words and skipped line that made it confusing at times to read. Although I got this version for .99 the other books in the series sell for $2.99. It's not worth paying the higher price for such a short book. In fact you are better off buying other military history books that are 5-6 times longer for $3.00 or less.
I will stick to the larger books, I get more read for the money . I will just have to read it in sections over a longer period of time.

A nice piece of work!

This book is easily readable and suitable for everyone even for the elementary students. I particularly like it that at the end of the book, some brief biographies of the main characters are presented. In this way, it summarizes the
whole book and gives you extra information at the same time. I would recommend it to anyone who likes history but not wanting to spend several weeks reading a single book.

A MUST HAVE SERIES

If you follow the Lusty, Tx series then this is the must have book for you. It tells the love affair/story of Grandma Kate whom we all have come to know and love. She is responsible for most of the relationships/marriages in the Lusty series. I swear I think this series gets better and better with each book. I highly enjoyed it and think that it should be a 10 but amazon only has 5 stars. Anyone who is a true fan of the series must have this book.

This is how the relationship between Grandma Kate (who was Major Kate Wesley) and Major Gerald and Major Patrick Benedict and shows how the originial women Sarah and Amanda started the match making tradition.

When I read the series again (which I will do of course) then I would recommend reading as follows :
Love under two gunslingers
Love under two lawmen
A lusty Christmas (even though she is telling the grandchildren the story)
Book 1: Love Under Two Benedicts
Book 2: Love Under Two Wildcatters
Book 3: Love Under Two Honchos

SWEET STORY AND BRINGS KATE TO LIFE IN A NEW WAY

As a product of the 60s with parents who were young during WW2,this struck a cord with me...loved the story and these characters...in fact the entire town , holds a soft spot in my heart.....wish there were MORE stories about Lusty.....Cara,can you come up with some MORE offspring to write about?

Actually I did really love the story. But the editing was awful. Every click of the page on my kindle there were three words that were constantly run together. It slowed down the story a great deal while trying to figure out the wording. That's why I gave it 4 stars out of 5.

But other than that it was a story that needed to be told. Kate's story was awesome. Her mother though, wished she could have met these women. They would have set her straight. Then again, maybe not.

But the one man that tried to sabatage the airplanes was wrong. All for greed and profit. His theory was that no one was getting hurt, so why not do what he was doing. Wrong.

Never count out Amanda and Sarah though. Those women were formidable. They arranged it so Kate and her men could marry and she could remain in the army as a nurse. The whole story just clicked and before I knew it, it was over.

So glad the next one Love Under Two Jessops is out so we can all enjoy that story line.

Very enjoyable series. Loved the end of this one.

I'm not exactly sure why for a dollar anyone would begrudge a series. TV shows go on and on all the time, and for these kind of novels I really think of that as the standard. Is it as good as, say, a USA network show. And I'm enjoying this series, the first books of which I read on my husbands Kindle. The first person action is very well written, which is hard to do, and I love Ryan Sinclair. Plus the build up with the iPad scene that blasts open the ending of the book is something worth reading for.

The book starts basically starts where book four ends. This book is very short read but very enjoyable read. It would be hard to leave a full review without putting out a bunch of spoilers, so I'll cut it short and say this is an amazing action thriller express train.

For people that don't know the series it is about our hero "Goldman" trying to stop a human trafficking ring. Goldman's other obstacles along the way including encountering terrorists and James Bond style spies.

I recommend you read this book along with the rest of this series if you like action packed excitement.
