Butler Does It Again!

I am fast becoming a Pomeroy family fanboy. The husband and wife duo have done it again. Butler's Island could have been a rehash of the things that made Butler Did It a good read, as most serialized sequels are, but the only things repeated are the important basics of the first one: a fresh variety of interesting characters mixed with the familiar protagonists, the sense of adventure, the bizarre action setpieces, witty writing, and my inability to put the book down once it got rolling. This time Butler comes home from his worldly life to attend his father's wedding and quickly becomes embroiled in two mysteries, the disappearance of a researcher and a possible pirate's treasure. It is not an exaggeration to say the book begins with Butler and crew flying by the seat of their pants, once again. They go from one scrape to another dragging the reader along and daring to solve the mystery ahead of them. I particularly liked the Southern setting and the gradual merging of the two mysteries, as well as the pirate narrative and backround material we learn about the Butler clan. I also liked the descriptions of the locales, and the theme that runs throughout: sometimes you have you have to get your hands dirty. If you like treasure hunts, or action / adventure romances, this might be a book for you. It's breezy, funny, exciting, and a great follow-up to the first book. Number three better be on its way.

Second Matt Butler and I LMAO What a great read

Just one great read. LMAO through loads of it.

Matt and Tommy are home for James Butlers wedding. James is Matts Father.

A wedding that goes off without a hitch if you don't count both Tommy, Matt and Matts terrier Jack arriving soaking wet and mud covered after being thrown off of a shrimp boat.

We also have a young researcher, Paul Gavin, who is murdered on The Albatros, one of three Butler research vessels.

Of course no one knows he's been murdered. He just disappears and they later get an e-mail stating he took another job. Matt ain't buying that for minute one. He knows something is up but not what.

Matt finds a note in a ship that was in a bottle at his house. The house was partially damaged by a hurricane and the bottle housing the ship was broken. This note talks about a treasure that was hidden by an ancestor of Matts. One Isaac Hazard.

So begins one great and in places one seriously funny tale.

We have Matt, Tommy, Marianne, the Town historian, Alexis a movie Star and Jack all involved in the hunt for treasure. Along with James and his new bride.

We also have sabatage, a murder, an oil man and his flunky's and Matt and Tommy trying to figure it all out while trying to not get killed in the process.

Add to that two brothers. The Moran's by name and you end up with one great adventure. This one is loaded with danger, adventure and comedy.

One great read and I'm waiting for number three. Five Stars.

The 2nd book in the Matthew Butler series

The Pomeroy's have come up with another winner! This excellent adventure story has multiple plot lines which awesomely come together at the end. Not only does this book contain adventure, it also has mystery, intrigue, suspense, romance, plenty of offbeat humor, and enough action to keep you wondering what will happen next. There is a pirate treasure to be found, a murderer to uncover, and an underlying mystery to solve. A truly satisfying read!

And if you haven't read "Butler Did It", the Pomeroy's first book (it's a freebee), by all means check it out. You will soon get hooked on the Matthew Butler series. Right now I am impatiently awaiting the release of the next Matthew Butler adventure.

Club Shadowlands

Holy tie me up, bend me over, and spank me!

I have to say, I have read a whole lot of BDSM erotica. For some reason, if written properly I get the hot warm and fuzzy when a great Dom is written. Thank you Cherise Sinclair for getting the elements of this lifestyle correct. Because I have to say, after reading this book, I now want to be a member of Shadowlands!

An honest to god sub at heart, I could see the totally burning need to be controlled by Jessica. It was written with ease. The way she stumbled upon the real woman she really was, and how damn lucky for her that it is the owner of Shadowlands that takes a liking to her. I have come to find that it is really hard for me to write a review on a book I really like. I really don't feel that I get out the exactly how good the book is, and people disregard it.

For me, I think the basic thing that drew me into this book, was the build. It started out so simple. A woman runs off the road in the rain, and heads to the nearest place which happens to be a huge mansion that doubles as one of the most exclusive BDSM clubs in the nation. For any inexperienced person, that would be one of the most frightening things to visually see. It is like a living breathing, dungeon on display for just any passerby to see. For someone like me that is a true sub, it would be like one big giant playroom. I wouldn't know where to start first. However, Jessica the female lead was not just taken aback, she didn't read the `rules' and had no clue what she was getting into.

For me I loved that Jessica wasn't just a cut and dry female that happen to dig being controlled. She had issues, she was full figured, and being a full figured woman to be stripped in public for the first time would be horrible. Cherise does an amazing job at creating her Dom in this book. Master Z was an older gentleman and like most great Doms, loves a `soft' woman. I appreciated how he not only introduced her to the fact that she was highly aroused by submission, but he introduced her to her true first punishment. It was very real, and I found my heart clenching for her.

For a story that was just supposed to be a true and light interpretation of the BDSM lifestyle. It was so much more coming from someone that knows it firsthand. I suggest it as a read for someone that not only loves BDSM, but for someone that might be curious if they are turned on by the idea of being controlled. Because let me tell you, this book gives you a great open window.

An Excellent Read

While I didn't start with this book when I began reading the series, I have to say if I had, I definitely would have been hooked. First off, while I have to say that it is a graphic novel with smoking hot sex scenes, the plot and characters lead to a much deeper story. The relationship between Master Z and Jessica gives the reader a wonderfully insightful look into a world most find taboo. From the beginning Ms. Sinclair hooked me in and kept me wanting more until the very last page. While Master Z is sensitive and attentive to Jessica and her needs, he's also tough and stubborn to the end. Jessica is a wonderful character that takes the reader along on her emotional journey of self growth and exploration. If you're looking for something with edge and grit, but want a 'real' plot written with tasteful class, Club Shadowlands is a perfect choice. I highly recommend not only this book, but the entire series.

New Master of Romance...

I have been meaning to write a review of this book for a long time for amazon readers so now I have the opportunity. Masters of The Shadowlands by Cherise Sinclair is one of my all time favorite books. Not only do you get Master Z's story but you get Master Dan's also. So the price is actually for two books. That are extremely well worth it, trust me.

Club Shadowlands-

Jessica couldnt belive it when she hydroplaned off into a ditch and stranded her car. In the middle of a tropical storm raging in Florida, chances were good that she wasnt getting unstuck any time soon. So she headed to the nearest house she saw. Once getting there her life was going to change forever.

The moment Master Z saw her his Dom instincts were fired. He wanted her and there was something about her that he hadnt encountered in a long time.

Jessica's first venture into the world of The Shadowlands was something completely foreign and totally taboo for her. But after spending one night with Master Z, something had changed inside her. Could she let go of her inhibitions to snare the handsome Dom, or would she let her fears get the best of her.

Sinclair does a wonderful job of introducing the reader slowly to the world of bondage in Club Shadowlands. There was never any objectionable material in my eyes. Master Z was very much the alpha male and that doesnt differ much from most other romance novels. I would say to people that are hedging on the borderline about the BDSM that this story will change your mind. Cherise will suck you right in and you will be hooked and begging her for more of her Masters of The Shadowlands.

Dark Citadel-

Master Dan was one of the most sought after Doms in Club Shadowlands. Handsome, strong, a great top. All the subs knew that one night was all you would get out of him. His past scarred him so badly one night was all he could give to anyone. Until Kari.

Kari and her boyfriend had made an agreement to visit Club Shadowlands to explore some of his "wilder" sides. The whole BDSM thing being foreign to Kari, she was willing to try something new. After her boyfriend got a little too controlling Kari decided her time there was done. She headed out the door, but not before Master Z intervenes in both her and Dans lives. When asked if she would like to continue the evening, but with a more experienced Dom, Kari agrees. After all Dan is extremely handsome and does something to her insides she had never felt before. After a brief encounter with him though, she believes its all over and she wont be topped by him again, until his jealousy flares and he claims her for another night.

Will Kari be the sub to bring Dan out of his downward spiral. Can she convince him there is more to life than holding onto the past so tightly? Or will she give up and leave Dan and Shadowlands behind her forever?

Dark Citadel is my favorite of the Shadowlands series. Dan is definetly a wounded hero type and those are always my favorites. Rather than the man rescuing the woman, its the other way around. Even though he may fight and deny it Kari is pulling him out of his hard shell he created. Sinclair only gets better with each new work that she writes. She introduces a little more of the BDSM scene in this book but in no way hard core.

Now I will also say that the Shadowlands series doesnt stop after these two. The third is with Master Nolan, a much darker, much more sinister man. His story is another very much worth reading, but as the heroine had come from a terribly abusive man, the BDSM in Breaking Free was much darker than that of the first two stories. Still a great read!

Her next series is called Master of the Mountain. This in my opinion is Cherise's best work by far! The characters are so well developed, they both have such scarred psyches that it leaves you wondering how they will ever fall for each other. Trust me, Master is so worth your time reading. There is a small amount of bondage in it but nothing offensive.

Trust me, picking up any one of Sinclair's books is well worth the read.

Excellent Book for Greater Understanding of the Great Code Talkers

This book is very well written and gives an interesting view of the WWII through the eyes of a Native American. Although I do not believe this to be autobiographical in nature the reader is able to experience and understand first hand the difficulties faced by the main character. We purchased this to use for homeschooling while we were working on a unit about WWII. My son was able to give a great report using this text and he walked away with a greater understanding of the sacrifice of the Native American Code Talkers and our soldiers in general during this war. Love this book!

His duty was (1) to give historic arrangement to the confused mass of the original series; (2) to supply, in continuity, such brief introductory notices as might slightly popularize what was apparently meant for scholars only, in the introductions of the translators; (3) to supply a few deficiencies by short notes and references; (4) to add such references to Scripture, or to authors of general repute, as might lend additional aid to students, without clogging or overlaying the comments of the translators; and (5) to note such corruptions or distortions of Patristic testimony as have been circulated, in the spirit of the forged Decretals, by those who carry on the old imposture by means essentially equivalent. Too long have they been allowed to speak to the popular mind as if the Fathers were their own; while, to every candid reader, it must be evident that, alike, the testimony, the arguments, and the silence of the Ante-Nicene writers confound all attempts to identify the ecclesiastical establishment of "the Holy Roman Empire," with "the Holy Catholic Church" of the ancient creeds

In at least one case 1 John 5:7 is quoted as it is found in the King James Bible. The importance of this is it proves "The Father the Word and the Holy Ghost are one" was not added. Because it predates the"oldest and best" (so called) Sinaiticus

The kids were GRIPPED!

Presented in alphabetical order, there is a great selection of critters in this book which includes 10 snakes and 3 spiders. Although some of the animals are presented in their other books, many were fresh. Each 'chapter' included a photo and info on the following: AKA * Where in the world * What it eats * Venom Rating (1-5) * Danger to humans (1-5) * Description * Video links

What I loved about this book was the fact that it explained the toxin, whether it was a neurotoxin, hemotoxin etc and how it affected the body - symptoms, time to kill etc.

Did you know that the venom from a Blue Ringed Octopus contains tetrodoxin which is up to 10,000 times more powerful than cyanide?! The symptoms of a bite from this guy are scarey!

How about keeping the Deathstalker Scorpion as a pet? Some folks do! The Gaboon viper, one of the most fascinating snakes to watch, has really LONG fangs! Find out how long in this book. The poison of the Golden Dart Frog is very rare. What is it?

A new one to us was the Irukandji, a VERY small species of box jellyfish. Nasty! Nasty! BUT fascinating!

Did you know there was a killer caterpillar? Wait till you see this fella! How about a type of snail for which there is no antidote or antivenom? Which spider has fangs long enough to penetrate a finger nail? Yikes!

At the end of the book there are 25 questions to test your knowledge of what has been read.

So any problems? I think it has been proven now by researchers that not all female black widows kill their mates. A couple of the videos do not work: Deathstalker, first video is private and on the Sea Wasp, second video is not available. Please also note that on the third video for the Sea Wasp, the presenter experiments with stinging himself with an Irukandji and does swear due to the pain.

Overall an EXCELLENT book, very educational. Our kids begged me each morning for more "Poisonous Animals" until we had completed it!

Bought this for my nephew and ended up up devouring it

I am one of those people who have a reptile phobia. I can barely type the word. Seriously. But my 10 year old nephew who uses my ipad more than I do, loves them. So I bought this for him. To my surprise, I ended up reading it and loving it. It was so very interesting, and learned facts about venom, and antidotes that I think all adults should know. I have to admit, though, I did skip over some of the photos! Anyone, child or adult, who loves and is curious about the natural world, and who doesn't will love this well-written book. Get it, no matter how old you are!!

My son loves this book!

This book is really cool. It is part of a series of books 25 of the most _______ in the world. It gives a great description of the animal, what it does, lives, eats, ect. But at the end of each animal, there is a link to click on and it will take you to a webpage with videos of the animal. My son will read this book and watch the videos for hours on end. This is a really great education tool. The concept is fabulous! I highly suggest buying this book for your kiddo. My son and I have so much fun watching and reading this together. You or your kid will not be dissapointed.

It is singular, that, with this attention to the modern history of the Peninsula, there should be no particular account of the period which may be considered as the proper basis of it,— the reign of Ferdinand and Isabella. In this reign, the several States, into which the country had been broken up for ages, were brought under a common rule; the kingdom of Naples was conquered; America discovered and colonized; the ancient empire of the Spanish Arabs subverted; the dread tribunal of the Modern Inquisition established; the Jews, who contributed so sensibly to the wealth and civilization of the country, were banished; and, in fine, such changes were introduced into the interior administration of the monarchy, as have left a permanent impression on the character and condition of the nation. The actors in these events were every way suited to their importance. Besides the reigning sovereigns, Ferdinand and Isabella, the latter certainly one of the most interesting personages in history, we have, in political affairs, that consummate statesman, Cardinal Ximenes, in military, the “Great Captain,” Gonsalvo de Cordova, and in maritime, the most successful navigator of any age, Christopher Columbus; whose entire biographies fall within the limits of this period. Even such portions of it as have been incidentally touched by English writers, as the Italian wars, for example, have been drawn so exclusively from French and Italian sources, that they may be said to be untrodden ground for the historian of Spain. About the Author
Lee Jing-Jing is a Singaporean writer whose poetry and short stories have been published in local and international journals. Born in 1985, she has a Master of Studies in Creative Writing from the University of Oxford, England. She was a Finalist in the Glimmer Train's Fiction Open (2009) and was given Honourable Mention Glimmer Train's Short Story Award for New Writers in 2012. Her short stories and poems have been published in Poetry Quarterly, Lumina, Ceriph and the Quarterly Review Singapore.

slow and meaningful

This book was slow and meaningful.

The story was a multi view point story with several characters. Each character really only scratched the surface. Visually speaking I was only able to build a picture of one character. The others remained in a misty haze. Emotionally speaking I was able to build a little stronger picture of each character.

The beginning and end were the best parts. The rest of the view points were rather slow moving. Each view point touched on something that was private and deeply emotional.
