Fun book with interesting facts about the human body. All text no pictures or photos. This book gives fun facts about the internal organs, hair, fingernails, toenails, brain, senses, bodily functions, sex and human reproduction, diseases and aging process and death. muscles and bones, microscopic view and miscellaneous facts.

The book tells how often we get a new stomach lining, how many miles of blood vessels, how woman's heart is different than a man's, the largest organ, the life span of hair, and how much hair we lose every day.

There are a few sexual facts-not explicit but not things to share with my child like how many people are having sex.

About the Author

If you don't already like Julia London, don't start with this book

I found this book, Extreme Bachelor, to be barely readable. It's about two people who break up for no reason, meet 5 years later and try not to patch things up. Well, he tries, she tries to avoid him, and it's not clear to me what the point was.

Halfway through the first scene where the author is setting up the romance that drives the novel, I was thinking "so she's disposable" not "he can't live without her". I REALLY didn't like what the author did with the heroine's life - the dichotomy between her lack of sucess and his extra-super-glorious success was a total turnoff for me. I would have preferred that the heroine wasn't such a loser, even though she was working on it. I would have preferred that the hero wasn't such a player. I basically didn't like either character much, and it never improved.

I didn't like the Dialogue:

Your best friend of 5 years doesn't say "my oldest daughter Ariadne made this for me" (not a direct quote). You would say "my oldest daughter" or "my daughter" or "my daughter Ariadne" and the last only if it was clear that there was more than one daughter. In this case, I don't remember the daughter's name, but this happened twice in the first couple chapters and annoyed me. There was opportunity to add the name in a more realistic way.

I also didn't like the competency of anyone:

How is dodgeball a *team* sport? It's a collection of folks on each side playing individually. The fact that they used it for building teamwork, especially without giving people time to discuss strategy, was just dumb.

Most of the actresses came off as unprofessional bimbos who would rather be doing anything but be at their jobs. And the heroine denegrated the ones actually trying to work. What's likeable about these people?

At any rate, I think I've read something else of Julia London's that was reasonable. I won't be reading this series, though, because I already hate it. The only reason it didn't get 1 star is that, aside from the dialogue, it is reasonably good prose. If a person came to care about these characters for some reason, and could suspend disbelief about the capability of all characters, it would be easy enough to read - unlike this sentence.

I hated Michael!

Leah Klein and Michael Raney used to date five years ago but Michael broke up with Leah because of his job (he is a CIA). They meet again when Leah get a role in a movie that Michael is helping with. Michael wants Leah back but Leah was too hurt by Michael to get back together.

I really disliked Michael A LOT. He was the biggest flirt and player. He flirted with almost every woman in this book and while he was trying to win Leah back. He also went on dates with other woman and was flirting with his ex-girlfriends. I also hated the fact that the author made Leah a completely loser after Michael dumps her five years ago. I understand women falling apart after a hard break up but that doesn't mean that their life is totally over after the break up. The author also keeps on mention how Leah can't act or how she doesn't get any acting role because she is "fat" and that made me dislike this book even more. Also, Michael had a lot of his ex-girlfriend around him to make Leah jealous but for some reason the author doesn't give Leah any other guy to make Michael jealous. The only guy that does try to go out with Leah turns out be a bad guy. I mean supposedly Leah is so hot then why doesn't any guy ask her out? The worst part of the book was when the Leah finally confesses to Michael how wrong she was and how she loves him and then what happens? ...he has a girlfriend. The whole reason Leah didn't want him back because of all the women he has been with and he proves her right by having a girlfriend at the end. I honestly can't image Michael to be a faithful husband and if I were Leah I would've moved on long time ago and been with a guy who really deserves me.

Can I express how bad this is?

If you are looking for a book with a loveable hero who adores the heroine, this is NOT the book for you. I have never been so disgusted with a book in my life. The hero dumped the heroine early on and then decided years later he wanted her back. He supposedly loved her but he kept dating other women while they were trying to work things out. When she expressed her hurt, this jackazz got angry at her! This was the absolute worst book I have ever read. I need to find something worth reading to wash the thought of this terrible book out of my mind.

A heartbreakingly joyous read! Family does not always have a similar genetic structure.

Leisha has such a gift of writing, an exceptional ability to make you feel her implied emotions. The continued story of these two families exceeds expectation given the short time frame the majority of this book covers. This gifted woman takes you from the depths of a friend in dire need through the obligatory fulfilling of immediate care in times of loss. I do not give the story away in my reviews and will not do so with this one. I will tell you the entirety of this story continues well past the last page. I can't wait to start the next book in this series and believe you will agree.

The writings of Margaret Cavendish, Duchess of Newcastle, are remarkable for their vivid depiction of the mores and mentality of seventeenth-century England. This edition includes all of Cavendish’s Sociable Letters (1664), a collection of writings that comments on a wide range of aspects of seventeenth-century society, such as war and peace, science and medicine, English and Classical literatures, and social issues such as choosing a spouse, married life, infidelity, divorce, and the option of women not to marry.

This Broadview edition includes a critical introduction and a valuable selection of primary documents that situate Margaret Cavendish and Sociable Letters within the context of English letter writing and other early women writers. Appendices include the letters Cavendish wrote during her courtship with William Cavendish; letters by two family members, Elizabeth Cavendish Egerton and Christiana Cavendish; letters written by Aphra Behn, Dorothy Osborne, and Angel Day; and an essay by Francis Bacon.

About the Author
Anna Hess dreamed about moving back to the land ever since her parents dragged her off their family farm at the age of eight. She worked as a field biologist and nonprofit organizer before acquiring fifty-eight acres and a husband, then quit her job to homestead full time. She admits that real farm life involves a lot more hard work than her childhood memories entailed, but the reality is much more fulfilling and she loves pigging out on sun-warmed strawberries and experimenting with no-till gardening, mushroom propagation, and chicken pasturing.

She also enjoys writing about the adventures, both on her blog at WaldenEffect.org, and in her books.  Her first paperback, The Weekend Homesteader, helped thousands of homesteaders-to-be find ways to fit their dreams into the hours leftover from a full-time job.  In addition, a heaping handful of ebooks on Amazon serve a similar purpose.

Good Summary

In this really good short summary, you get pretty much everything you needed to know about Green Manures aka cover crops. This is a book for hobbyists, yardeners, and backyard farmers, and perhaps a good review of the topic for professionals. However if you are looking for a painfully detailed chemical analysis of the soil, or an in depth soil science book to put you to sleep, please look else where. This has all of the practical information you need to be able to understand and use cover crops, nothing else. The book is accessible for the layman (or woman) and with almost 30 years of gardening experience and 4 years of professional experience working on development projects in the third world, I can say this is the best book written on the subject I have read so far. You will not be disappointed in this book if you want a quick read giving you only the essential information on the topic. My hat comes off to Anna Hess for writing this spectacular book.

excellent information on a niche subject

It can be difficult to find information on cover crops that focuses on not tilling your soil, which is something I'm not willing nor interested in doing for our first garden on our new farm. We have heavy clay content in our rocky soil, and I discovered right away with a small test garden that digging to incorporate organic matter and nutrients was laborious and inefficient (not to mention, back breaking). Nearby neighbors have tractors and tilled gardens, and I'm sure I could sweet talk one into plowing up a garden spot for us, but I don't want to rely on that and am trying to focus on permaculture practices instead. That being said, I need a way to bring organic matter in other than simply trucking in pre-blended soil for my raised beds from the closest source, which is over an hour away and can also get very expensive. Homegrown Humus addresses this need perfectly and gave me both the background information I craved to understand how cover crops work as well as ideas and solid information on actual implementation. The author writes in both an easy and fun to understand style that will wet your appetite for her other excellent e-books that address a variety of permaculture and homesteading related projects. Very pleased with this selection and will be referring back to it as needed during the upcoming gardening season.

No nonsense book for improving soil tilthe

Although short, this is a very good primer on getting started growing your own mulch year round in the garden. Much of the US once had as much as nine feet of topsoil. Many areas now have less than an inch or two. Following the author's simple suggestions will have your soil organic content increasing over time. If you are outside of zone 6 you will have to experiment with the cover crop species some, which the author points out, but she provides a couple of resources to explore for ideas as well as the thought process for how to make your selections. A thought provoking read.
