Great info

Great book, great method, lots of insights and jokes from the author.

I feel very hesitant to say this, but I feel the need to alert others. I'm not sure I gained anything from reading this book that I hadn't already extracted from a handful of internet articles. Look at T-Nation's write-up of this book. It has -all- of the basic ideas that you need to start your own 5/3/1/ program. This book is really a glorified article as I read it in one sitting. Also, a quarter of the book is a redundant FAQ section and some testimonials.

To emphasize the highlights of the book, the section on the different 5/3/1/ programs (big but boring, triumvirate, etc) are clearly presented and easy to compare. Also, the accessory exercise section I haven't seen anywhere around the net. He breaks his philosophy down really well here. I should also add that Wendler's humor makes the book move right along.

The bottom line is that for me, I'm not sure $10 is such a good deal. Had it been $5 or so, I would have been happier with my purchase.

Do you even Lift? Buy this book.

I've been following Wendler 5/3/1 for over a year now, after an 8+ year from any type of exercise. I have a background in strength training, but I had gotten lazy and time crunched. I wanted a program that was easy to follow with minimal pre-planning on my end.

Wendler 5/3/1 is easy, but having at least some prior strength training knowledge would be better.

On this program I've lost 40 lb. with another 40 to go. My strength has gone way up. I'm 36 yr/old 6'1 305 (walking around) I currently bench press 320 lb. Military press 200 lb. Squat 350 and Deadlift 435 lb. I'm still steadily getting stronger.

If you're looking for a really good program to follow, then this is a great one to use. The program is centered around the 4 Big Lifts and assistance work. Once you have your 4 Big Lifts down, you can go a couple of different directions with the assistance work. There's great tips for if you're pressed for time, or busting plateaus.

Jim Wendler's other book Beyond 5/3/1 will be my next purchase to drop the other 40 lb. and get to my goal of a 405 bench press.

Great for anyone looking to GET STRONG

Love this book, it is a simple, progressive program which is well written and funny. I have been using Microsoft excel to track my workouts for a while and the author provides the formulas to create a spreadsheet to automatically calculate your % 1RM for the workouts. Also has a great section on exercise form with some tips that helped my squat increase just by tightening my form up. No nonsense approach to building long term strength!
