Let me tell you straightaway, this is not a book for Potterheads.  However, if you like poking fun at goofy characters from bedtime books, this one's for you.

I was dragged kicking and screaming to the first movie in the dreadful Potter series and needed an emesis bag by the time it was over.  With the terrible movie still fresh in my mind, I sat down at the computer and banged out this story so as to clear my mind of the cloying pap.  This story was written to make people laugh and was written for the connoisseur and aficionado of ribald humor.

However, within a few days of going up on Kindle Books, at least one (and perhaps only one) young Potter fan bought the book without first reading the .  He got the vapors, poor thing.  So be warned.  NOTE: I've got more short stories and books here in the Kindle Library. The best way to find them is by author and that's me, Merlin Sprague.

what was the author thinking!?! this is giving the REAL books a bad look. DO NOT GET THIS BOOK,IT IS HORRIBLE!!!!!! Dumbledore would never turn his back on Harry, Ron, Heromine, and Proffeser McGonagal. so before you consider getting it think it through...

Good Grief! How can there be so much bad stuff in 1 page?

I got the sample of this book (I've been into Harry Potter lately) and thought I might like it. I was wrong. The sample is half a page of horrible written writing that looks like a first draft! (When I got the sample I didn't notice all the 1 star reviews.) I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that people who write a Harry Potter parody and publish it should read all the the books. By the way, Merlin, there is a way to find out what really happens next: watch the other 7 movies!

Seriously, did the author go dump-diving? This THING is not even worthy of being called a book! It sounds like someone dug up pieces of ripped up paper covered in tomato sauce from week-old pizza and coffee stains and rat crap, rinsed 'em off, and used a butt load of Scotch tape.

I didn't even bother finishing it. It's horrible! The facts are all wrong, too. Harry and Hermione are NOT a couple. Hermione and Ron have two kids. Harry and Ginny have three kids. GET THAT THROUGH YOUR THICK HEAD.

Don't waste your money.

My dogs love these!

Overall, it's a well thought out book with great tips and easy to follow directions.

My reasons for baking treats at home: 4 years ago, my Wheaten Terrier almost died from a bad bag of dog food (during that massive recall of different brands), so I'm now all about holistic for my pets (and the people in my house too). I feel better giving them something from my kitchen, rather than a store bought item from who knows where that's been on the shelf for who knows how long. I have 3 dogs that range from 14 years to 4 years, and sized from small to large. I downloaded this and bought a few cheap cookie cutters in the shape of hydrants, a dog house, and a dog.

I've made 2 recipes from the book - the peanut butter banana biscuits and the cranberry turkey ones. I used water and not broth for the recipes and regular whole wheat flour, and the author is right - it's tougher to work with. Easy to find buttermilk powder at the store and I like how the recipes use ingredients that you'd normally have on hand. The tip to prick the top of the biscuit is important. It's also cheaper to make your own treats.

The PB banana ones were a success, I baked a 'soft batch' and then a harder one since I wanted to experiment. Rolled out in different sizes too.

Then I tried the turkey/cranberry ones. I substituted chicken for the turkey. The dogs went insane for them. I've made them again, they bounce around by the oven waiting for them to cool. So, I'll be baking a batch every week. They get their treats, and I feel good about them - it's a win-win for everyone.

Pointless
By telling it as is
No point in getting this doggie recipe book unless you are able to find "soft" whole wheat flour as the author states that the recipes are no good unless you use that
I have been to4 natural food stores, many grocery stores with the health food sections in them and this is nowhere to be found.
I would check to see if you can find this before wasting your time with this book.

Fun To Make

I really have enjoyed this book, & so have our Dalmatian & Black Lab. They actually get excited when I get out the bone-shaped cookie cutter! The basic recipe is delicious (apparently!) & very versatile. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is the difficulty of finding many of the ingredients in the book. Carob & yogurt chips are hard to find in my area. Oh well-Penny & Xero say plain is just fine!

Looking for ALL of his Volumes

I have 2 of the volumes "My Favorite Quotes....". I have only a few things to say about this book.... IT WAS AND IS FABULOUS!! The only problem with the book is that it is just not long enough. I literally got to the end and was heart broken. I had not even realized how close I was to the end as it was such a fast, easy and intriguing read. I love quotes of all kinds and have many quote book and poetry books but Mr. Ponnapalli is hands down my favorite author of quotes. My Favourite Quotes Volume 12: Love to Nature

The book is put together neatly and the words are perfectly written and easy to see (for me, this is important as I have bad vision). The chapters are broken up nicely and are easy to manage. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this book or this author. You will find the exact same review for the other volume I have. I am going now to look for the other volumes. I have referred back to this book many times since I received it. Highly recommended!!

This review will be have a little more information than the other volume in that I found out something else wonderful about this author. When I went to this order; I happened to see a link that states I can lend this book to someone for 14 days!! AMAZING!! I have never seen this option before but immediately lent it to my mom. I am going to go back to the other volume and see if I can lend her that one as well. The only problem is that for those 14 days; Amazon says I do not have access to the books.... ;-(
I am sure this is an Amazon rule and not the author's but that is okay. I know I will get it back and I am more than happy to share this book with my mom.

Great Contemporary Debut!

For those who have loved Ms. London's historicals, don't be afraid to pick up her first contemporary, MATERIAL GIRL. I had such a good time with this book, I'm wondering why she hasn't been writing contemporaries sooner.
Robin Lear's pampered and spoiled world is about to come to a screeching halt. When her father informs his family that he's dying and wants to make some changes, Robin had no idea that those changes included making her learn the business she's been doing for years. On top of being demoted and put under her ex-boyfriend's supervision, Robin must also deal with the sexy contractor renovating her house. Suffice it to say that they didn't exactly get off to a great start.
Jake Manning didn't expect the beautiful woman (who he'd met at the jail, no less) to be the same determined woman who'd hired him to renovate her house. Now, he has to deal with her spoiled, donut stealing fingers, and goodie two-shoes attitude, as well as try to keep his nephew out of trouble and fend off a love struck college girl as he tries to finish his degree. Being attracted to the one woman who treated money as if it grew on trees didn't help matters. But when the sparks turn into fire, Jake sees himself falling right into the flames and love.
MATERIAL GIRL is so much fun, I couldn't put it down. Jake is to die for. Family oriented, Jake tries his best to control and love his fourteen-year-old nephew, Cole, but doesn't know how to reach him. Along the way, he grows and adapts to the changes life has thrown at him. Robin also changes and adapts, but for entirely different reasons. She's been spoiled and handed things all her life. Now her dying father wants her to be able to take care of herself, so he makes her start over in learning the business instead of giving her a decorate place at the top. She doesn't quite believe she's as snotty as she is until she is forced to take a good look at herself. The secondary characters are wonderful, complimenting the main story instead of detracting from it. And did I mention funny? How these two meet is hilarious and I found myself snorting with laughter, loving every minute of the bantering between Jake and Robin. With angst and emotion, the reader watches these two fight with each other and themselves, all the while falling in love. Ms. London does a wonderful job of setting up the next books in this series about Robin's sisters, which I will eagerly await. Don't miss this extraordinary contemporary debut from a very talented author.

Jake Manning grew up on the wrong side of the tracks in Houston with a pessimistic mother and a younger brother that died tragically. Jake is juggling his thriving business with night classes in architecture and helping to raise his teen-aged nephew Cole. Although the money he's making on Robin's house pays a lot of bills, the attraction to this scatter brained prima donna can only mean heartbreak and trouble.
Robin's self-esteem hits rock bottom when her father "demotes" her and gives her a job on the bottom rung of the corporate ladder; but Jake helps her make lemonade out of this batch of lemons. Can a material girl find true happiness and love with a blue collar "white knight" with a whole lot of baggage?
MATERIAL GIRL is full of convincing characters, snappy dialogue, humor and sizzling sensuality. Julia London's writing is smart, clean and a whole lot of fun. Jake has both work boot shod feet planted firmly in reality while Robin's Stuart Weitzman clad feet seem to be running around in circles, but this talented author keeps your interest focused on the protagonists' personal predicaments - their highs and lows; their joys and sorrows. The peripheral characters are as finely drawn and equally entertaining. This fast paced story is first class with "attitude" and will leave you eagerly anticipating Rebecca's story next year.

A home run book

My recommendation: stop reading these reviews and just ORDER THIS BOOK NOW! This was by far one of the very best contemporary romance novels I've read in a long time. It wasn't one of those stories where the hero and heroine fall in love and all of their problems magically work out. These two had to WORK at it.

Several reviewers have commented that Robin (the heroine) was a spoiled brat and they didn't like her. I agree that Robin was spoiled and she had a heck of a lot of issues to work through. But I think her character was written in such a way as to give us insight into WHY she had these shortcomings and therefore make us cheer for her to change. We want to see her succeed in her own personal metamorphosis, because she definitely needs one. Thankfully, her hunky hero Jake can see inside her to the real person waiting to get out and he coaxes her along.

This story had humor (lots of it!), deep characters, heavy family issues to work through, and well-rounded secondary characters. I can't wait to read another Julia London book...RIGHT NOW!

Contains Great Studies of the Transatlantic Slave Trade

This book contains a number of studies on various aspects of the Transatlantic slave trade. Studies include an examination of mortality rates on slave ships, among both slaves and crew. Other essays address how certain regions of Africa provided slaves for certain regions of America in different periods of the slave trade. Further studies debate the influence of particular African regional and ethnic cultures on various locales in the Americas.
This book offers insight into American, European and African developments over the course of the slave trade. This book should interest anyone studying African-American history, African history, the history of the slave trade, or immigration history.
Those interested should also consider Philip D. Curtin's The Atlantic Slave Trade: A Census, as well as the database on CD ROM edited by David Eltis and company, entitled, The Transatlantic Slave Trade. The information available on CD ROM provided much of the basis for the research in this book.

Marianne Williamson, celebrated author of A Return to Love, meditates on the nature of prayer and its collective power in this commentary, and offers actual prayers that address our hopes and struggles.

The first part of Illuminata expresses the inimitable Williamson conviction in the collective spiritual revolution at hand. "We seek to replace an old, oppressive order, not so much politically or socially, but within our minds where it lives and works," she writes with unbridled energy and urgency. Although her examples of individuals who exemplify this change can be daunting, still they offer vivid pictures of human courage and generosity. For instance, she cites the character played by Ben Kingsley in Schindler's List as exemplifying selfless acts of generosity in a tormented world. This suggests that her book is a kind of path through human spiritual evolution. Indeed, for Williamson, illumination is "...the spiritual tunnel through which the soul finds its way out of ego-bound darkness into mystical light."

What did I do before I found this book?

Several years ago while watching Oprah I discovered this amazing book. I bought the book and now have it safely by my bedside. I pick it up on a daily basis and read..somthing..I cannot believe how much this book has helped me in my daily life. I have also bought the book and given it to several of my friends as gifts because it truely has something for everybody in it. I have also read all the rest of Marianne's books which are also very good but this one is just too good for words. I have Fibromylgia and live in constent pain each and every day but this book always lets me know that there is hope. All I can say it Thank You Marianne and please keep writing and if you ever come to the state of Washington I would love to hear you speak.

joy to sorrow

This is probably the 10 tenth copy I have bought of this book. Have given this to friends and family as gifts, Marianne's prayers are extremely reflective. Her book covers every area of existence of life from birth to death, joy to sorrow. Personally Illuminata became such a God sent for my Mom and entire family. When my Mom was dying of ALS the "Prayer For a Peaceful Death" that I read over and over brought my Mom and everyone hearing it such comfort. Thank you Marianne, what an angel you are.

Beautiful book with prayers for anything that might need a prayer. They're written in language that feels like the reader's own voice. I'm a big fan of all of Marianne Williamson's work but this one is my favorite. I've passed on the prayers to friends who've then gone and purchased the book. It's a special collection of prayers that broadened my spiritual practice.
