A HOME RUN

Usually when you read a book of short stories the quality is inconsistent: some are fantastic, others are unimportant. No so with this book.
But this isn't quite a book of short stories. Instead, an editor has chosen entire chapters from books written by other authors, some I've heard of, others I haven't. Every chapter had a purpose.
Don't expect to be uplifted by each chapter; after all, there could be no empty tomb had there first not been a crucifixion. The crucifixion was necessary. Many Christians gave their lives for their faith not long after, and in the Middle East, Christians are still giving their lives today.
But each chapter has a purpose, a lesson. Some will uplift your spirit; others will remind you of sacrifice. All are well written.
You will recognize some of the authors: Desmond Tutu and C. S. Lewis who is more famous for his children's books ( although he wrote a wonderful book about grief ); others may become your new favorites.
Just give it a chance. I'm glad I did.

Since this book is composed of chapters from 10 different books, I would not expect to like all of them equally. It does give a range of views on various topics and some insight into the ten books should the reader wish to purchase any of them.

Excellent Excerpts Cafeteria

So much to read, so little time, and perhaps limited resources. This book may help you choose how to allocate your book budget. It contains a chapter from ten books so one can get a flavor of the book before purchasing. All ten excerpts are substantial, well researched and engaging....and at the end of each chapter is a link to purchase the entire book, and I wanted to get almost every one. A good introduction to each book, All the Authors are well versed in their subject. Besides for the price (free at the time I downloaded it) it was well worth the price. If you are looking for an overview of a number of books, this is well worth the time invested in reading the segments.
