Great Novella

“That’s what I do, man. I just try to keep her happy. If she’s happy, then I’m happy”

In this great holiday novella from Jaci Burton we get to revisit with the Riley clan over the holidays and catch up with all of our favorite couples from the Play by Play series. Holiday Games focuses around Gavin and Liz trying to get pregnant, Christmas dinner and Jenna and Ty’s wedding. There is a lot of changes going on with the Riley family and it was so fun to catch up and see what everyone’s doing now that they’ve had their happily ever after.

Liz and Gavin are by far my favorite Play by Play couple and I was delighted when i heard we would get a novella about them. In this book Liz is determined to get pregnant and she will seduce her husband every chance she gets in order to make this happen. Liz being the strong, determined woman who never fails at anything she has a one track mind about getting Gavin as naked as possible so she can make this dream come true. Because of her determination we get a lot of steamy hot sex scenes from these two and get to see just how much they still love each other. There are a lot of very cute and tender moments with these two that just melt your heart and others that will light up the page with their sexiness.

I think my favorite part of the book was catching up with all of the Rileys. We get to see Nathan at college and bringing home his first girlfriend, Jenna and Ty get married and everyone else is just as crazy in love as they were when we left them. I hope that we get to see more from the Rileys in future books and novellas because they made the Play by Play novels a must read series and I always want to see what happens with a group of characters I’ve enjoyed so much. Looking forward to Melting the Ice in February and seeing what’s next in this great series.

A Steamy Novella!

In Holiday Games by Jaci Burton, the holidays are coming, her sister in law's wedding is approaching, and Liz would like nothing more than to get pregnant with Gavin's baby. If you'd asked Liz a few years ago if she dreamed of marriage and a baby, she would have honestly said no. Now though, Liz can think of nothing better.

Liz has loved Gavin forever, and is living her dream life now as part of the Riley family. Liz and Gavin have a great relationship and have been trying for over a year to get pregnant with no luck...but Liz doesn't let this stop her adventurous ways, her love of life and family, and preparing to host the entire Riley family for Christmas! Liz is determined to get pregnant, but some things even Liz has no control over! Will she get her Christmas wish this year?

Holiday Games is a fast paced, energetic read. There is no real drama...there is a lot of love, laughter, and hope. The concept of not being able to have a baby has the potential to really create havoc in a character's life, but Liz is mature and is not letting the whole baby issue rule her life. Holiday Games brings other characters into the story line, and I admit that it is a bit confusing and 'noisy' if you haven't read the other stories...but they all add strength and backbone to the family that is the Riley's. Jenna's wedding plays an important role in Holiday Games also, and it shows the strength and togetherness of the Riley's.

Holiday Games is a perfect length novella for the story that had to be told, but I would recommend it as an addition to the other stories in this series instead of a stand alone. It is a fun catch up story for new and old of the Riley's.

I'd recommend Holiday Games for a romance reader looking for a lot of steam, very little drama, and some holiday fun with a big, boisterous family!

A Riley wedding is in the works, a Riley Christmas means a house full of family, and baby making is on Liz Riley's mind. Chasing Gavin around and meeting in dark closets can be fun, but Liz is more than a little determined. Even with family in every corner of the house, Gavin is more than ready to do whatever Liz wants—especially when sex is involved. It's a Riley family Christmas.

Thoughts: I love this series, especially the Riley's family books. When I saw there was a holiday novella in this series I knew I had to read it.

Jenna's getting married and Liz wants a baby, and is hosting the Riley family at her and Gavin's house. Because it's Liz she has to be in control of everything.

This is a really fun short story catching us up in the lives of the Riley family. It also has lots of hot sex between Liz and Gavin.

I loved catching up with the family in this series and seeing my favorite couple in the series Jenna and Ty getting married.

While I know it was about Liz and Gavin I would have liked it more if we'd gotten to spend time with all the couples. Especially Jenna and Ty as it was their wedding.

Grade 8 Up-When it comes to creating strong, independent, and funny teenaged female characters, Bauer is in a class by herself and the 16-year-old waitress in this book is no exception. Hope Yancey and her Aunt Addie, a much-sought-after diner cook, have toured the country, one diner at a time. With each move, the teen leaves her mark, "HOPE WAS HERE," in ballpoint pen somewhere on the premises. Now in Mulhoney, WI, she has no idea that the residents of this small town will make their mark on her. G. T. Stoop, the Quaker owner of the Welcome Stairways, has leukemia, and while the disease can keep him from running the diner he loves, it can't keep him from running for mayor against a corrupt incumbent. Taking part in his campaign allows Hope to get to know Braverman, a fellow worker at the Welcome Stairways and G. T.'s greatest supporter. The mix of dealing with illness, small-town politics, and budding romance for both Hope and Addie is one that will entertain and inspire readers. Bauer tells a fast-paced, multilayered story with humor but does not gloss over the struggle of someone who is unable to trust, someone who has been left before, and who avoids getting close to anyone for fear of being left again. Teens who have come to expect witty, realistic characters and atypical (but very funny) story lines from Bauer's previous books will not be disappointed and new readers will be sure to come back for seconds.

Well-done Grill and Gratitude Story

Hope has a thick skin--you have to in order to be such a great waitress. But at 16, when she and her aunt move to a Midwestern small town to run the diner there, her carefully-constructed detachment is challenged when she meets the owner. G.T. has a way of drawing people in, whether they be the townsfolk he wants to get votes from, or the new waitress he wants to befriend. For Hope, this is a first: a friend who cares more about other people than he does his own health, even if he does have leukemia.
Joan Bauer deserves the distinction this book has won as a Newbury Honor Book. Hope Was Here is a warm and friendly read, completely engaging and hard to put down, and I felt good about the world after I read it. It gets my highest recommendation for any teen or adult who likes Sandra Bullock movies or Maeve Binchy novels or who is curious about the other side of the counter.

About the Author
Rosemary Clair holds her Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communication from the University of Georgia. After college, she worked in medical sales for several years before turning to writing full time. While honeymooning in Ireland, she was first introduced to the mysterious land and superstitious ways of the locals. Both intrigued her immediately. Back on American soil, she began researching Irish myths, the lore and fables passed down through generations, and the idea for Heir of Earth began to take shape. Writing is definitely a labor of love for Rosemary. While typing away on her latest project occupies most of her day, when the sun is shining, the outdoors call to her. On those beautiful, southern afternoons she sneaks away to the barn to get a little inspiration from her beloved horse, Asscher. Rosemary lives in Athens, Georgia with her husband and one very pampered pooch.

Great New Series!!

Wow...I definitely discovered a gem in this book! I had a bit of difficulty rating this book because part of me wanted to only give it 4 stars, but I went with 5 because I truly loved this novel. However, there was one big problem I had with this book, so I would actually have given it 4.5 stars if I could. Anyway, this book was amazing. I loved the whole concept of it. This novel is unique, original, and amazingly detailed. You can easily tell that Ms. Clair put a lot of effort into crafting the world of Sidhe, and making it her own. I loved the mix of mythology, and Ms. Clair crafts it in an expert way that allows the reader to enjoy a brand new kind of supernatural world and have no idea what to expect next. The writing was great as well. Everything is very detailed and descriptive. I could see the lush, Irish rolling hills, the cliff-sides, everything. The whole book just came alive, and it created a beautiful story.

The characters were just as amazing. Faye is a very likeable main character. She is easily relatable, and is faced with what she terms a "handicap." This handicap isn't what you expect, but she copes with it the best way she can imagine, by pushing everyone away. At first, I wasn't sure I was going to like her because she was very timid and meek. However, once she actually arrives in Ireland and is with her Aunt and Uncle (well, actually they're her cousins, but that's a whole other story), she comes alive in a way that I was never expecting. She undergoes a transformation that was brilliant (and brilliantly written), and Faye becomes a stronger, more outgoing girl. As soon as I read this, I knew Faye would be a character I would love. Dayne is beyond words. His character, while mysterious and aloof at first (and who doesn't love those types of characters), quickly becomes entangled in Faye's life, and you will love every single scene he is in. Both the reader and Faye quickly become aware that something strange is going on with him, and while I did figure it out easy enough, it was still interesting to learn his secret and everything that went along with it. I am claiming Dayne as mine right now, so watch out girls haha! He is so romantic and sweet, and he is willing to go to any length to keep Faye safe from his world. Faye is definitely one lucky girl. The secondary characters were also full of life and excitement. Even though they aren't the focus of the novel, I loved all of them. They truly had their own personalities, and added a great depth to the story that is not usually found in secondary characters. I loved Rose, Phin, and April! They were awesome and just plain hilarious.

Throughout the entire novel you know something major is going to happen. There is a dark and dangerous character that is briefly mentioned in key scenes, and comes into play much later in the book. The story is shrouded in mystery, and it keeps the reader hooked till the very end. And then, by the end, you will be so desperate for the next book you want it immediately.

So what was the problem? The beginning. I felt that it dragged a bit at times. It was still great, and I was interested, but there were parts that could have easily been cut out, and the story wouldn't have been affected (besides the fact that it would have been shorter). I kept wanting Faye to smarten up and figure out what was up with Dayne because honestly, it was glaringly obvious-even if you didn't read the description of the book.

Nevertheless, I am eagerly anticipating the next in this series, and book 2 can't come out soon enough. After everything is revealed, quite shockingly I might add (the scene was amazingly written), the story moves quickly and the pages fly by. You never want to stop reading, and will be left breathless with all of the twists and turns. I highly recommend this to anyone who likes Irish mythology (Sidhe, fairies, etc), and anyone who is looking for a great read. Yes, it is a bit long, but don't let that worry you. It just gives you more of the story to love! Happy reading :)

This is the becoming of Faye Kent. She starts out as this little mouse of a girl and ends up being a strong force of force of Nature. She has secrets that good her back until she meets Dayne who has secrets of his own. They are drawn to each other. Together they discover a bond. It seems the world is against them and things fall apart. That is where the next book will start off.
I enjoyed reading this book. The characters were well written and the story moved slow but it kept your interest. The most vivid part was the description of Ireland. I have never been there but the war it was described made me feel like I was there. My only complaint was the editing. There were a few misspelled words and some grammatical errors. It didn't detract from the story it was just a little distracting. If you like a good paranormal story with good characters and a beautiful setting you will be in for a treat when you read this one.

the book is an entertaining snapshot of some aspects of Irish folk lore. However the protagonist (Faye) is driven completely by her emotional impulses. I don''t think she makes a rational evaluation of her situation throughout the book. the rest of the time she spends an inordinate amount of time crying as her emotions swing from happy to the depths of despair. I should hope this depiction is not emblematic of the emotional state of a significant percentage of teenage girls.

First off I wanna say that also if anyone has already read Still Candy Shopping by Kiki Swinson this story is included in the book after the story "Still Candy Shopping". Still Candy Shopping is written by Kiki Swinson and Amaleka McCall and I thought Amaleka McCall had written this story so I don't know why her name does not appear on the cover but anyhoo, I loved,loved,loved, this book regardless of who wrote it. From start to finish I was captivated. In fact this is one of my all time favs for street lit books. The book is areal page turner.I loved the ending.S*** I loved the beginning, middle, and especially the ending and I am soooooooo looking forward to the next book as I understand this will be a series. Miss Kiki Swinson.I love your books. Keep up the good work.
