A wonderfully Romantic Western

"Thank you" to Sharon Gillenwater and her publisher for sending me a copy of "Emily's Chance" to review for them. I am truly grateful for this generosity. I really appreciate the time, effort and expense it takes to make a reviewer copy available to me.
"Emily's Chance" is book 2 in "The Callahans of Texas" series by Sharon Gillenwater. In this wonderful novel, Chance Callahan has fallen head-over-heels for Emily, a museum curator who has come to Callahan's Crossing to go through articles being put aside to create a museum of the town's history. Chance has even concocted a way to keep Emily in Callahan's Crossing so that he has the opportunity to woo her.
But Chance's reputation as a heartbreaker and Emily's own disfunctional family and love relationships have jaded her ideas about love and romance. Will Chance have the opportunity to prove that he and his intentions are real? Or will Emily run away from true love to pursue the career that she believes will give her all the fulfillment she needs.
This wonderful romance will entertain, encourage, and make the reader examine their own trust issues. This is a terrific novel that I highly recommend.

Emily's Chance is a little risky...

Emily Rose Denny grew up searching for her parents' approval. As a college graduate attempting to build her resume, she recognizes that she's still seeking to measure up to her parents' standards. Success, no matter the cost, is her goal. She's not ruthless, just very determined. She takes joy in her temporary job in Callahan Crossing as she works to set up the town's new museum. She also enjoys the people of the city, especially one handsome cowboy, Chance Callahan, maybe a little too much. Chance appreciates spending time with Emily too. In fact, within a few times of meeting her, he knows he's going to marry her. Unfortunately for him, Emily plans to leave for the big city in a few months and really isn't interested in having a pointless relationship. Will Chance be able to convince Emily to stay? Will Emily learn that true contentment is found in love rather than in a misplaced obsession with success?
Emily's Chance is a sweet love story. There are a lot of feel good moments in this book. However, the story didn't captivate me. I think it would have benefited the story if the main characters had not been quite so perfect and if there had been more tension. If you like romance novels with predictable and fairly perfect characters, you will probably like this book. However, I recommend renting it from the library before buying.

I loved Jenna's Cowboy. Loved Emily's Chance. I can't wait to read Megan's Hero. Sharon is such a good writer. Her characters are believable and likeable. Her stories have good pacing. I read them in one sitting. I haven't been to Texas much, but her books make me want to move there.
