Her high hopes are dashed by her family's antics as they chase away candidates whose behavior reveals their unworthiness, leaving only Augusta's oldest friend and neighbor, Richard Wilbanks, whom she has somehow overlooked. Marks's attempts to infuse the story with humor are heavy-handed and the outcome too well telegraphed, but the setting and story pacing are pleasant. (Jan.)

This is a fascinating approach to the problem of finding a husband in early 1800 England. Shirley Marks has developed consistent, believable characters with a humorous plot. The plot is a little unbelievable in its development, but makes a wonderful spoof of the courting habits of the English in the 19th Century. I probably would have rated this 4 1/2, if I could have, but the program here would not allow me to do that. The numerous suitors are a little challenging to track, introduced rather rapidly and intermix throughout the "courting." I think the book would have been better had Marks taken a little more time to develop each suitor so the reader could make a better mental picture of each and keep them distinguished from each other during the story. Another problem is one that I don't want to discuss as it would give away too much of the story.
My favorite thing about the book? It is most refreshing to read a novel that has no offensive language, no offensive "scenes," and no violence. There are some of us who still like to read without wading through garbage. Thank you, Ms Marks!!

I have found another really good author ! I saw some bad reviews , and was not sure about getting this book until I realized that all the low views where because they did not have sex in this book ! Just what I was looking for a book with no sex or cussing ! This was a really good story !

Cute Story

This is a quick cute story with very little substance. Good for a quick read. I appreciated that there was no language or activity that would cause me to stop reading.
