The tragedy of September 11, 2001, has raised awareness on how crucial it is to analyze information and intelligence. Smaller agencies that cannot financially justify hiring a full-time analyst will find strategies and techniques to teach officers the methods of analysis. Career criminals are the enemies of a community's well being. Now that advances in information technology give us the means and methods to fully examine and find meaningful knowledge in the vast amounts of existing information on crimes and criminals, we have an obligation to use our technological strength to protect innocent people. Systematic crime analysis as a law enforcement and public safety asset has become not only possible, but also truly necessary as a weapon in the war against crime.”

I'm new to Crime analysis but what I have read and been able to put to use, the information in this book is great. It doesn't go into depth but covers the many areas of crime analysis and gives a good bibliography. For beginners like me this is a great book.

A good primer.
By Amazon Customer
This very slender volume is a fine primer for someone who knows nothing about crime analysis. It has numerous links and mentions other books to study for more depth. The ten commandments of a crime analyst are a wonderful summary of what the business is about. The glaring fault is the price, which is not the author's fault.

There is no way this book warrants such a ridiculously high price. It is indicatve of how textbook companies are frisking students who are required to purchase certain texts and thus, exploit their monopoly. Keep your eyes open. I picked up a fine used copy for about ten bucks.

Evaluation by a crime analyst
By A Customer
This book is a good resource for persons starting a crime analysis unit or for a person who is new to the crime analysis. Of particular value is the listing of resources and the discussion of operating philosophy. The book is well written and well laid out.
